Biography
Wilbur Rohrbach was a muti-talented man. He raced, engineered and built stock cars. And along the way he still found time to be a champion motorcycle hill climber.
Wilbur was known as much for his heart as he was for his head. His knowledge of motors and suspensions, safety devices and fabrication skills put him in the forefront of this growing sport in the 1960's. He helped develop the technical & safety rules employed by N.W.M.S.C.R.A.
John Derue, who used to pit for Wilbur, and ran Big Sky Speedway for a time says that it was not uncommon for there to be 2 competitors cars sitting in Wilburs garage being worked on while his own car sat to the side. "Besides being a good driver and mechanic, Wilbur was the first one there to help anyone who had trouble with their car" says Derue. "He was always lending parts and advice to help others". Sadly, Wilbur passed away in 1974. Too young - but he left a legacy for those who followed to "take from the sport less than you give."
Wilbur's wife Jean and sons Randy and Kelly can still be seen at the races on occasion.
