Biography
Dick Robinson worked as a mechanic for FarWest gas and oil in the early 1980's when the owner came to him and a co-worker and said “I just bought a car and I want you guys to make it into a race car for me”. Dick had never built a stock car before but this didn’t stop him from tackling this job. Before the car was finished he ended up with it as his own when the business failed and got it on the track at Big Sky Speedway in 1984. He was immediately successful winning Rookie of the Year in the Super Stock division where he raced until '87.
His career continued in the Street Stocks from 1988 – 1997, then the Sportsman series in 1998 and the Limited Sportsman in 2000, '01 & '07. When the INEX Legend series started in Kalispell he jumped in and competed from '02 – '05 and won two straight Series Championships in 2002 & 2003. He also spent 4 years as flagman at Montana Raceway Park and was the Lead Tech Consultant for several seasons for the Montana 200 Race. Dick spent 2 years as Vice-President of the NWMSCRA and was on the board of directors for many years. He has spent the last 7 years on the board of directors for the Hall of Fame. He also has won 4 Pit Person of the Year awards, NASCAR Pit Person of the Year and has sponsored and helped countless racers throughout the Northwest.
He describes his best memory in racing as the 2007 season at Raceway Park when he was able to compete against both his sons Jason & Josh. That year they won 10 of 11 main events between them in the Limited Sportsman division and finished first, second and fourth in season points.
Dick Robinson is that rare combination of mechanic/driver that has found success and respect in racing and he continues to contribute to this day.
